Global Font Use & Forecasting Survey 2024.

Fonts are a constant in design and branding, but their impact on our lives changes as technology, consumer expectations, and creative thinking evolves. Monotype partnered with independent market research company Censuswide to survey a broad base of font users to see what’s on their minds and report those findings back to you.  

The insights gleaned from this survey can help brands plan for the future and better understand the challenges, concerns, and opportunities their own teams are encountering on a daily basis.

Typography remains central to design.

The sans serif still reigns supreme.

52% said they’ve used sans serif styles the most over the past 12 months.

Creatives more optimistic about AI than pessimistic.

Survey results show: 43% value AI for new font discovery, 45% for suggesting font pairings, and 45% for visualizing typography in projects.

But AI adoption has not made significant inroads ... yet.

62% are not using AI for font selection or generation. However, 91% said they can see the potential for AI tools.

Subscription status quo.

Survey results show nearly 9/10 respondents use design-related subscription tools, such as Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva, with an average of 4 subscriptions per person.

There's no time like rebrand time.

54% said the best time to evaluate an
organizations’ font choices is during a rebrand.
