Based in Bangalore, India, Vaishnavi is a Creative Type Director who delves deep into the world of written languages. Inspired by her grandfather’s knowledge of ancient scripts, she turned her childhood fascination into a career by pursuing an MA in Type Design at the University of Reading, supported by a Felix Scholarship.
Addressing India’s rich and complex linguistic landscape, Vaishnavi aims to merge tradition with digital innovation. She engages in script research, standardisation, encoding, and design, striving to make both modern and traditional scripts more accessible and relevant. Vaishnavi has received training in the restoration of paper and palm leaf manuscripts at the National Manuscript Mission and actively works to identify, conserve, and digitise endangered manuscript collections.
She earned her undergraduate degree in graphic design from the prestigious National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad and remains actively involved in various aspects of this discipline. This background enables her to integrate type design seamlessly within the broader context of branding, editorial design, and UI/UX interfaces, catering to a roster of notable Indian and international clients.
Beyond her studio’s confines, Vaishnavi embraces the vastness of the sea, sharing her love for scuba diving as an instructor. In the depths of the ocean and the complexities of typography, she discovers beauty, purpose and boundless possibilities.
